Another amazing year is done. What trends will we see in 2018?

I can’t believe how fast 2017 has gone! It’s December already and with it the quiet winter months in the wedding calendar. This of course means that it’s time for the highlight reel for 2017 which you can see below. I love this part as I get to look back through all the weddings I have photographed during the year and 2017 has been amazing. I have picked a few of my favourite images from the year but of course I have loved every tear, laugh and emotion I have seen at over 30 weddings.

Every year I am humbled by every couple that chooses me to be part of the biggest day of their life. Being able to spend the day around such happy people makes wedding photography absolutely the best job in the world. December is the time to look ahead and you can see my thoughts about wedding trends for 2018 below.

Outside of weddings and work, just like everyone I have personal goals for the year ahead. I am turning 30 in 2018, a fact that I am not happy about although I know it is still young really. I know the older you get the more health and fitness plays a part and I certainly feel that after a 12 hour plus wedding day. So I have decided to put a lot more effort into my fitness and health (we will see how well that goes). Above all though I can’t wait to start the year and speak to so many new couples about their wedding plans.

2018 Wedding Trends

I love meeting couples, hearing about what plans they have for their wedding day. This usually happens 1 or 2 years before their wedding date so I get to see some trends happening and hopefully some of these will help with your wedding planning.

Wedding venues are often the first thing couples book. One of my favourite things about weddings is the huge options when it comes to venues. Every year there are more and more quirky and amazing venues and it’s so nice to be able to shoot in traditional venues and churches one week and then tipi’s and old industrial buildings the next. So my first tip for planning your wedding in 2018 is to have a good research of venues, spend some time visiting some even if you are not sure about them as you might be surprised once you see them in person. The options for venue styling now are endless and you can really make them fit with your personality and style.

Minimalistic looks have started to get really popular and I think this will continue in 2018. Really nice natural light style looks and muted colours seem to be popular. I have also noticed, especially in summer weddings the use of outdoor games with the emphasis on fun as much as anything else. This is hopefully a trend which will continue as they are great fun for al the guests and make for some really fun images.

I can’t wait for 2018 and since my move to Middlesbrough this year I have started to book more and more North East venues and I can’t wait to shoot at some new places including, Slaley Hall, Ramside Hall, Crathorne Hall and many others for the first time. I will also be attending a number of wedding fairs across the region for the first time. I haven’t attended wedding fairs before but I am really looking forward to meeting and talking to you all about your weddings. Stay tuned for news of where I will be in 2018.

Podcast and Blog

As many of you know I started a podcast this year which featured a couple of amazing guests and has had hundreds of listens. This was just the start and I am hoping to release a new episode every month in 2018 so if you have any topics you want to hear then drop me a message at podcast@evolutionimages.co.uk and I will do my best to find the best suppliers in the area as a guest. The blog will obviously be staying as well with hopefully lots more useful content for anyone planning a wedding. Finally I will be creating a number of videos showing the process involved every step of the way from meeting me to getting your finished album so keep an eye out for those.

Huge thanks to 2017

I couldn’t do what I do without the couples who believe in me and I am forever grateful each and every year. 2017 has been no different and from York to Cardiff I have enjoyed every wedding day I have been to and I am really enjoying putting the albums together over the winter and getting to relive the day again. So I just want to say a huge thanks to all the couples from 2017 who have made the year for me, your all awesome!

I am taking 2 weeks off over my sons birthday and Christmas to spend some time with my family and take a rest. But I will be back with new content and loads of weddings for you in the New Year. If you get engaged over the New Year period, congratulations and let the fun of wedding planning start. As always let love conquer and see you in 2018.

Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year,

Scott 🙂
